ZTE Secures GSM/UMTS Deal from Indonesia's Telkomsel

Chinese telecom equipment supplier ZTE has entered into an agreement with Indonesian telecom operator Telekomsel, a JV between Singaporean SingTel and Indonesian Telkom, the Sina Tech News reported on June 24. Pursuant to the agreement, ZTE will deploy a GSM/UMTS (Global System for Mobile Communications/Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) network for Telekomsel. At the same time, Telekomsel also plans to deliver 3G services in 147 cities nationwide by 2013, leveraging ZTE's advanced telecom equipment and after-sales services. Other than Telkomsel, ZTE has secured similar agreements with other telecom operators, including Hong Kong-based CSL, China Unicom, Turkey-based AVEA, and Vietnam-based Viettel, according to the same source. Financial and technical details of the agreement, however, were not yet disclosed.
